Computational Fluid Dynamics

Fastskin LZR Racer

Computational Fluid Dynamics, a well-established methodology used extensively by the aerospace, civil and naval industries and in other sports such as F1 motor racing and Americas Cup yachting allows engineers to numerically solve complex flow problems via computer modelling techniques.

Computational Fluid Dynamics, which can predict how existing and new product designs will behave in real-world environments, has been used to evaluate the friction, pressure and fluid flow characteristics around swimmers. The analysis was performed using Computational Fluid Dynamics software and technology from ANSYS, the world leading computer-aided engineering software and service provider.

Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis was used to indicate where most drag occurs on the swimmer’s body thereby allowing Speedo to be able to optimise the design of Speedo LZR RACER suit by understanding where to eliminate drag most effectively.
