13 World Records Smashed by Speedo Stars
8 new records in just 5 days!

This weekend saw an onslaught of smashed world records across the globe, with a jaw dropping 8 new records being created at the European Championships in Eindhoven and The Australian Trials in Sydney. Alain Bernard scored three and Marleen Veldhuis made it four in Eindhoven, while Australia's Stephanie Rice, Emily Seebohm and Sophie Edington made history in Sydney. All five athletes were sporting Speedo's LZR Racer, making a total of 13 world records for the Speedo and suit developed with world class partners including NASA.

France's Alain Bernard managed an unbelievable world record per day in Eindhoven European Championships this weekend. Friday 21st March, he flew through the 100m freestyle in his LZR Racer, with a time of 47.60, beating the existing Dutch record and becoming the first Frenchman to hold this world record since 1964. A day later, Bernard shaved seconds off his own record in the same event and clocked a time of 47.50 and further secured his place in history.

Sunday 23rd March saw Bernard smash his third record! Back in the pool for the 50m freestyle he stormed the event, clipping ground breaking seconds from Eamon Sullivan's recent record set just a month ago!

Records continued to be broken in the women's events as well. Saturday 22nd March, Australian Trials in Sydney: Australian Stephanie Rice knocked off over a second from Katie Hoff's 400m Individual Medley world record. Speedo sponsored Rice was under world record times on every leg and clocked up a mind blowing total time of 4:31.46 in the LZR Racer racerback suit.

Emily Seebohm continued Australia's success with an astonishing performance in the 50m Backstroke. Seebohm torpedoed through the water to become the first female to put less than 28seconds on the clock and knocked Hayley McGregory's record out of the water, after just a few weeks of being at the top.

Sunday 23rd March. Sophie Edington made it a hat trick of World Records for Australia and smashed Seebohm's record from only the day before. Making the third world record for the LZR Racer in this event this month!

Back in Europe and the records continue. Netherland's Marleen Veldhuis clocked up a scorching time of 24.09 in the 50m Freestyle. The new world record replaces Inge de Brujin's record of 24.13.

Tuesday 25th March. Stephanie Rice scored her second world record at the Australian Trials when she swam an astonishing 2:09.92 in the 200m Individual Medley. Speedo's athlete Rice, finally smashed the 11 year old existing record held by China's Wu Yanyan.

Stay tuned as we get closer to the Manchester World Championships - the world records are bound to keep on being broken!
