Fastskin LZR Racer

2nd July 2008
Two More World Records in the LZR Racer
To start the night off, Team Speedo's Natalie Coughlin, who had already set a new World Record in the 100m backstroke during Monday’s prelims, smashed the record again setting a new World mark of 58.97 in Tuesday night’s final. Coughlin and fellow Team Speedo swimmer Margaret Hoelzer, who finished just behind Coughlin in 59.21, will represent the U.S. in Beijing in this event.

Never a dull moment at the Trials, Aaron Peirsol – a Nike sponsored swimmer choosing to wear the World's fastest swimsuit – lowered his own World Record mark in the 100m backstroke while wearing a LZR Racer legskin.

With tonight’s World Record swims by Coughlin and Peirsol, an unprecedented 44 out of 48 World Records have been set by athletes wearing the Speedo LZR Racer.

In the women’s 100m breaststroke final, Team Speedo star Jessica Hardy touched first in front of fellow Team Speedo swimmer Megan Jendrick. Both were wearing the LZR. The win earns Hardy her first-ever spot on the Olympic Team while Jendrick, the gold medalist in the 100m breaststroke in Sydney 2000, returns to the Olympics eight years later.

Swimming in Tuesday night’s 200m freestyle semifinal, Speedo's Katie Hoff, Kim Vandenberg and Kara Lynn Joyce all secured positions in Wednesday night’s final. Hoff comfortably leads the way as the top seed. After two incredibly fast swims, Michael Phelps and Davis Tarwater, both of Club Wolverine and Team Speedo, go into Wednesday night’s 200m butterfly final as the first and second seed. And in their second races of the night, Natalie Coughlin and Katie Hoff advance to Wednesday night’s 200m IM final as the top two seeds.

The media frenzy surrounding the LZR Racer continues with a live interview on the FOX Business Channel featuring Speedo’s Craig Brommers
