More World Records Broken in LZR on 3rd day of the Games
Current World Record holder Michael Phelps (USA) fought it out with fellow Speedo athletes, Park Taehwan (KOR) and Peter Vanderkaay (USA) in the Men’s 200m Freestyle.

The atmosphere in the Water Cube was electric as the ‘Baltimore Bullet’ strode out in the second lap leaving the other swimmers in his wake. With the gold in his sights Phelps touched the wall with a time of 1:42.96, smashing the first World Record of the day. Phelps is now one of only 5 Olympians to win 9 summer golds, if he achieves one more he has the absolute record! Park finished with a time of 1:44.85 to pick up the silver and Vanderkaay with 1:45.14 for the bronze.

Speedo dominated the blocks in the Men’s 100m Backstroke with every swimmer wearing a Speedo LZR RACER. GB’s Liam Tancock was first in the water and led into the first length but Aaron Piersol (USA) was biting at his heels. Piersol secured the gold and the second World Record of day 3 in a Speedo LZR RACER with a time of 52.54. Matt Grevers (USA) brought home the silver and Arkady Vyatchanin (RUS) the bronze.

Current World Record holder and Speedo athlete Leisel Jones (AUS) led the field from the offset in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke. Jones won the gold as well as realising an Olympic Record with a time of 1:05.17. Soni delivered a time of 1:06.73 to pick up silver and Jukic 1:07.34 to collect the bronze. On winning gold Jones said;

"I guess that’s what everyone comes here to do. To go out there and win a medal, but it took a lot of confidence in myself and a lot of confidence in my training, but it’s what I wanted and it’s a wonderful feeling."

The Women’s 100m Backstroke saw a full house of swimmers sporting the Speedo LZR RACER. Natalie Coughlin (USA), defending her Olympic title, led from the start, closely followed by Kirsty Coventry (ZIM) and Margaret Hoelzer (USA). The trio picked up a suite of medals with Coughlin confirming her dominance in the event with gold and a time of 58.96. Silver went to Coventry and bronze to Hoelzer.

Another exciting day at the pool with an additional 2 World Records and 2 Olympic Records being smashed as well as a British Record! All of today’s gold medals went to swimmers wearing the Speedo LZR RACER!
