- Speedo®, the iconic brand synonymous with swimwear, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. Marking the occasion, and to coincide with its sponsorship of the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Speedo held "The Evolution of Swimwear - An Exhibition" chronicling its 80 year history, in Championship Square, Manchester from 9th-13th April 2008.

- Opening ceremony kicks of the Championshps.

- The Opening Ceremony started the night off. Aerial dancers attached to colour-changing globes, took graceful death defying plunges towards the pool and over the International audience - all to the voice of well-known Manchester opera singer Jon Christos and his backing choir.
Mr Chris Bailleau (Chairman of British Swimming), our own Mr Stephen Rubin (Chairman of M2008 Organising Committee) the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Glyn Evans and Mr Mustapha Larfaoui (FINA President) made up the official ceremony committee who welcomed the flag bearers from over 120 countries.

- The Duncan Goodhew pool at the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena has been filled and athletes from around the globe are already warming up on the eve of the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).
