Number of World Records broken in Speedo LZR Racer reaches 30!
"This has been a great meet it's going to be exciting in Beijing"
Kirsty Coventry - 3 times World Record holder and 4 times Gold medallist
The atmosphere was electric on the penultimate night of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).
Proceedings started with the Women's 100m Breaststroke where the USA's Jessica Hardy swam a strong race to the finishing line, breaking yet another Championship Record. With a time of 1:04.22, Hardy broke her own Championship Record set in the heats, resulting in the 2nd fastest performance in the history of the event! Asked how she achieved this performance Jessica commented "Having this great atmosphere and confidence in myself."
Crowd favourite Liam Tancock, wearing Speedo's LZR Racer, added another medal to his Championship collection in the Men's 50m Backstroke final, winning Silver with a time of 23:53. In his second race of the night, Liam clocked up a Championship Record of 52:77 in the Men's 100m Individual Medley (IM) semi-final. Commenting on the crowd's support Tancock said "It's packed, the crowd was going mad. It's fantastic to be part of it."
Ryan Lochte of the USA raced into pole position in the Men's 100m IM. Lochte, in his Speedo LZR Racer, broke yet another World Record, taking his tally to 3 gold medals and 3 World Records all at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m)!
Once again Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry didn't disappoint, wearing her Speedo LZR Racer, she stormed the pool in the Women's 200m IM taking her 4th Gold medal of the championships and breaking the oldest world record at a time of 2:06.13! An emotional Coventry said: "I'm speechless and want to take this opportunity to thank the crowd"
Wearing the Speedo LZR Racer, Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic set a new Championship Record of 26:71 in the Women's 50m Backstroke semi-final.
In the final race of the night, the excitement grew as 8 teams lined up in the Women's 4x100m Freestyle. Speedo sponsored Great Britain, USA and Australia battled it out as the crowds roared from the stands. The strong Dutch team finished the race at an amazing time of 3:29.42 beating their existing World Record set in December 2007! Wearing her Speedo LZR Racer Dutch Marleen Veldhuis, supported her team with a world class performance of the fastest relay split in history.
The Speedo medal tally now stands at 103. (37 gold, 38 silver and 28 bronze).
